“Shack Up or Shack Out”

According to the Collins Dictionary, “To Shack Up” means” to stay living in the same house as sexual partners, without being married.” This is a very common practice here in the Caribbean, and there are some repercussions for unmarried couples purchasing property together. Note that common law marriage refers to a similar relationship but with other technical intricacies (We’ll look at that in another session).

To be fair, I’m sure happy experiences are abundant in buying property together as an unmarried couple, but in my line of work, I’ve seen my fair share of nightmares.
